Dell Inspiron 15 7559 laptop

Just bought a Dell Inspiron 7559 laptop

  • 15.6in. 4K Touch display screen (3840X2160 native resolution)
  • Core i7-6700HQ Skylake (2.4GH Quadcore with hyperthreading)
  • 8GB DDR3L 1600MHz(with free 4GB upgrade)
  • 1TB SSHD (Hard disk drive with 8GB SSD cache)+ 500GB SSD Samsung EVO M.2 (worth $145)
  • GTX 960M 4GB GDDR5 Graphics

If you are into for video and photo editing and PC gaming but with a limited budget, this laptop might be just for you.
I find the Dell Inspiron 15 7559 as a fairly attractive laptop. The main chassis is obviously black, while the red Dell logo adorns the top of the lid.The chassis itself has a rubberized finish, which has a slight tendency to show up greasy marks, but as long as your hands are fairly clean they won’t leave a mark.
Internal UK/Irish Qwerty Backlit Keyboard which is very useful when working in a dark environment.

In terms of connectivity ports, the Inspiron is well equipped. There are 3x USB 3.0 ports, 1x SD card reader, 1x Ethernet port, 1x HDMI 1.4a port, and the headphone jack. There are no ports on the backof the laptop, just exhaust vents and some red cooling fins.

Removing the underside panel of Inspiron 15 7559 is very easy. Simply remove one screw and pull at the edges to release the clips holding the panel down. Inside, everything is very tidy with easy access to both the M.2 SSD, the memory module and the 1TB HDD. Well done Dell!

The Dell Inspiron has 1TB 5400 RPM Hybrid Hard Drive with 8G Cache installed. Look, it was manufactured in the Philippines!

The Dell Inspiron 15 comes with 8GB DDR3L 1600MHz when I bought it. As a bonus, I got a free 4 GB upgrade. How cool is that and now its running in dual channel mode.
With a 74 WHr 6-Cell Battery, the Inspiron 15 7559 gets about 5.5 hours until we have to plug it in. With gaming, it's about 2.5 hours. Fully charging the Inspiron 15 takes about 2 hours as claimed by  the manufacturer.
The Dell Inspiron 7559 comes with M.2 SSD slot for future upgrade. Later I will install the Samsung SSD 850 Evo M.2 to make this laptop runs faster!
Presenting the Samsung SSD 850 EVO M.2. It has a lot of good reviews and it runs blazingly fast! You will never go wrong with this device.
The SSD Samsung EVO M.2 has a capacity of 500GB. Kinda small in apperance but huge in terms of storage capacity!
To install the M.2 SSD card, simply slide in the SSD card to the slot and gently press it in a downward direction. Refer to the laptop manual for detailed instruction.
Secure the SSD by installing the screw and you are good to go. I've used the Samsung Magician application to transfer the files from the 1TB hard drive to the newly installed SSD card. Configured the SSD device as primary partition and the 1TB was reformatted to become my data drive. Viola! This laptop can now boot up in less than 10 seconds.
Finally. I had remove the decals to make it look clean and neat. I've used a hair dryer to help me remove the decals.

Personal Review:

Pros:

  • 4K display. Perfect for watching movies and photo editing
  • Core i7 and GTX 960M is a good combination for 1080p gaming.
  • Relatively affordable.
  • Good looking.
  • Strong battery life.
  • Silent under light loads.
  • Fairly light at just 2.7KG.
  • Easy access on hard drive, SSD slot, and memory slot for future upgrade and maintenance.

Cons:

  • Gaming is not yet ready for 4K display as many PC games are supporting up to 1080p only.
  • You may need to lower down the resolution to 1080p to enjoy the game.
  • The DDR3 memory is not DDR4 (not future proof). Likewise you will not feel any big difference during gaming.

Rating: 8.0 score

Issue:

Static popping sound can be heard when opening or lunching application with audio.
Did some research from the web and I was able to find the root cause of the issue. The speakers popping sound was related to the audio driver (Realtek HD Audio) power management feature which was enabled by default. In order to resolve the problem, you need to turn off the power management settings on the realtek HD audio driver. To do this, you must tweek the registry.

Below are the steps:

Warning! Follow these steps carefully and do it at your own risk.
     1) Press windows button + R keys
     2) Type in 'regedit' into the prompt
     3) Click on HKEY_CURRENT_USER
     4) Go to REALTEK ---> AUDIO ---> RTKNGUI64 ----> PowerMgnt
     4) 5) On the right hand side of the window, find 'enabled'
     6) Modify the value to 0
     7) Restart computer

After doing this the power management for Realtek HD Audio will turn off, and I haven't had a problem with it since.
That's about it. If you would like to know more how to transfer the files from hard drive to the SSD card, please write a comment or email me.

Cheers!

Keep Calm..change is coming
